You already know what you want, and you are willing to do what it takes. In the beginning, change may be, and at some point, you might consider giving in the towel. You have to keep going. I promise it gets better with time.
To ease your journey, here are five tips to help you attain your health goals.
Set attainable and realistic goals
I know you are excited and so pumped to start this journey. First things first, you need to set your goals. You are allowed to be ambitious but try as much as you cannot cross the fine line between ambitious and too ambitious. Always remember there is power in breaking goals into small milestones. Achieve a milestone after the other, and before you know it, you will achieve your goals.
Don’t forget to applaud yourself for every milestone attained.
Keep a daily food journal and weigh your food
This step might be cumbersome at first, but I assure you the accountability will help you achieve your goals. Depending on your preference, you can have the pen and paper journal, or you can opt to have an application where you key in the data.
Drink more water
Water is life. Doctors recommend drinking 6-8 glasses a day. Keeping your body hydrated should be among your daily goals to achieve. Also, it is advisable to try to replace the sodas and other soft drinks with water. If you feel like your water is too plain, twist the taste by sweetening it with a fruit. You can try a slice of lemon, mango or even an apple.
Your body needs some workout. Just like dressing up and maintaining a journal, exercises should have a slice of time in your daily routine. You can decide to be taking 30 minutes walks daily or opt to use the staircase instead of the elevator. The best option is signing up with a gym.
Find an accountability partner
Having someone walking with you through this journey might end up being the best thing that can happen to you. Having a partner is similar goals to yours will create room for motivation. You will keep pushing one another to attain the set goals. Be careful when choosing your accountability partner. Some people might end up derailing you.
Stop with negative self–talk
No one can motivate you better than you can. You are your own cheerleader. Negative talk weighs you down and derails you from achieving your goals. Positive self–talk creates an avenue for you to keep going no matter how hard.
As time progresses, you might realize that you are not doing as well as you expected. Don’t beat yourself too hard; setbacks are part of the journey. You just need to re-focus and keep moving. To make the journey enjoyable, keep trying new things and be patient.
